Just as we have a set of National Standards for music education that tell what students should know and be able to do, MENC: The National Association for Music Education has developed a set of "Opportunity-to-Learn Standards" that outline what curriculum and scheduling, staffing, materials and equipment, and facilities need to be in place for students to achieve. You can review the complete document at http://www.menc.org/publication/books/otl.html, but you can get a feel for whether your school program might measure up by grading the following key indicators with true-or-false answers. We have provided five questions for each level to get you started on evaluating your schools' music program. In all cases, the "correct" answer is "True."
